Finland and especially the region of Kainuu is well populated with the great predators and other mammals. In Finland, there are about 2500 bears, 350 wolves, 450 wolverines, 2 200 lynxes, thousands of elks, foxes, beavers, and in Kuhmo about 800 wild forest reindeers. During the special autumn mammal week you have also good possibilities to see birds like capercaillie and black grouse. It s the ruska time in Finland, which means that the tree leaves, blueberry bushes and some other berries become beautiful yellow and red.
When possible we will go out in evening to observe the northen lights aurora borealis if the weather permit.
Program
Day 1 :
Arrival Kajaani airport or train station ( usually arrival between 17h30 and 19h). Transfer to a lodge, dinner and information on the program.
Day 2 : Bear and their ecosystem
Today, After breakfast, we will look for prints or indices of bears and others wildlife, by walking about 2 hours to discover the ecosystem where predators are living. Meal. After an instruction on the hide and bears, we will first drive and then walk to the hides for an exciting bear and wolverine watching. We get some sandwiches and hot drinks with us.

Day 3 : Friendship park, nature reserve
The taiga forest is a refuge for wild animals. A walk of about 5 km in this nature reserve to discover this ecosystem . In the evening, we go by car to search for moose and others widlife.

Day 4 : Wild forest reindeer
After breakfast, a day dedicated to the search for wild forest reindeer by vehicle: the wild reindeer of the forest (Finnish caribou) and the elk (also called moose in America). In the evening, we will go in search of elk/moose by vehicle. At dark, we will try an outing for the northern lights.
Day 5 : Kuhmo and bears
Today we will go to Kuhmo and enjoy a local nice coffee break and opportunities to shop.. After the meal, departure for another afternoon in the hides to observe the bears and maybe this time the wolverines or wolves appear.
Day 6 : Moose
An early wake up to go to observe the elk/moose. At return breakfast, some free time to discover the village and the rapids of Änättikoski. The evening we will go to search for the moose and also northern lights if the weather permit.

Day 7 : Departure
Breakfast and transfert to Kajaani ( train or airport).Usually flight around 12h10 so at Kajaani 10h30 )
